Team Communication #1

2025 FINAL LEG

TEAM COMMUNICATION #1

WELCOME

Greetings 2025 Final Leg Team! This serves as the first official team communication to all Torch Runners!

First and foremost, this blog will be your primary source of information regarding the Final Leg. Although there may be instances when we need to email you individually, this will be your one-stop shop for everything related to the Final Leg. Your program CEO's. LETR Liaisons, and Torch Run Directors will have access to this blog as well to ensure everyone involved receives the same information. I will remind you this is NOT a public blog, so please do not share this site with anyone outside of the Final Leg Team.

LOC

As most of you are aware, we are on a rather tight planning cycle for this Final Leg due to circumstances out of our control, but I am excited to announce that the Local Organizing Committee in Italy was officially established yesterday, so we should be rolling at a furious pace from here on out.

Please check this site often, as information will be flowing pretty quickly. As soon as we have our first meeting with the LOC Torch Run Coordinator, I will provide additional information.

TEAM LEADERS

Once we learn the scope of the Final Leg, each of you will be placed on a team with a dedicated Team Leader. We are very excited to have an exceptional group of Team Leaders, who all have experience as Torch Runners, or have served on a prior Final Leg as a Team Leader.

Here are our 2025 Team Leaders:

Pete Sawyer (Delaware)
Ivan Shields (Northern Ireland - pronounced Norn Iron)
John Nesky (Maryland)
Dennis Walker (Illinois)
Jonathan Calore (South Carolina)
Arthur Trommels-Huijzer (Netherlands)
Diana Sanchez (Louisianna)
Kelly Walsh (Connecticut)

DEADLINES

I would ask that you please respect any deadlines we may give you. Because of our tight timelines, we do not have the luxury of chasing everyone down for information.

RUN!!

Reminder #1, and you will hear this repetitively: START RUNNING! By the time you land in Italy, you should comfortably be able to maintain a 10-minute per mile pace (6:13 per km). We want you to thoroughly enjoy this experience, but if you're sucking air, it's no fun. Also, there may be occasions when we need to pick up the pace to stay on schedule. Our goal each Final Leg is to not have anyone riding the bus (jokingly called the sag wagon) due to an insufficient level of fitness.

Please don't hesitate to ask questions or comment through the blog. If you have the question in your head, so does someone else!
